Brian made his Major League debut on June 25, 1988, vs. Barry Bonds and the
Pittsburgh Pirates. Five days later he recorded his first Major League win on June 30,
1988, when he threw a five-hit, complete game shutout vs. Tom Glavine and the
Atlanta Braves.
In 1989, Brian was traded to the Seattle Mariners along with Randy Johnson and
Gene Harris for Mark Langston and player to be named later, Mike Campbell. On
April 9, 1990, Brian was the Mariners Opening Night starting pitcher vs. the
California Angels and recorded the victory with a 7-1 win. Brian is perhaps most well
known for his pitching performance on April 20, 1990 vs. the Oakland A’s when he
came within one out of throwing a perfect game.
Known as a fierce competitor, Brian was a workhorse for the Mariners during the late 1980s and early 1990s logging thirty-two
wins and fourteen complete games, five of those shutouts in just two and a half seasons of work. He was on his way to a very
bright future when regrettably his playing career was cut short when an arm injury forced him to retire. During his time in the
Major Leagues, Brian served as a Major League Baseball Players Association Player Representative and participated in
collective bargaining negotiations with team owners on behalf of the Players Union.
Brian is now heavily involved in youth baseball in and around the Wichita and Kansas City areas where he conducts private and
group pitching lessons and clinics for teams and individuals. Brian is also a sought after motivational speaker and shares his
inspirational messages at sports awards banquets and corporate events across the United States and Canada.
Prior to moving to Kansas City, Brian was the head varsity baseball coach at Andale High School from 2008-2010 where in 2008
he led his team to a second place finish in the Kansas 4-A High School State Baseball Tournament losing the championship game
2-1 to powerhouse KC Bishop Ward.
Brian is a member of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, the National High School Baseball Coaches
Association, and the Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches.
In 2007, Brian was inducted into the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame along with Joe Carter, Phil Stephenson, and Bill James. He
joined the Wichita Wingnuts Professional Baseball Club in 2010 as a Special Assistant to the General Manager. In 2010 Brian
along with his brother Brad were inducted into the Wichita North High School Hall of Fame for athletics.

Family of Pitchers
Brian comes from a family rich in baseball tradition. His brother, Brad, also pitched in the Major Leagues for the Seattle Mariners.
Brad has been a professional pitching coach with the Mariners, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and is currently with the Texas Rangers
organization. Brian's brother Brent pitched at Butler County Community College and finished his college career at the University
of Northern Colorado. Brent is currently a high school coach, conducts private pitching lessons, and coaches a select Show Case
team in the summer.
The Holman brothers’ step father, Dick LeMay, pitched in the Major Leagues in the
early 1960s for the San Francisco Giants and the Chicago Cubs. Dick managed at the
Minor League level and was a professional scout for the Montreal Expos during the 1980s.
In fact, it was Dick, who while scouting for the Expos signed Brian to his first professional
contract.
Brian's step brother, Chad LeMay, was an All Conference pitcher at West Point for Army, and
was captain of the team so you can just imagine the wealth of baseball knowledge this family
has compiled over the years.
The Holman’s continue to expand their pitching family as Brian’s son David signed with the
Seattle Mariners organization. David had a successful first season last year in
the Arizona Rookie League and will be reporting to the Mariners Minor League Spring
Training in early March.
Minor Leagues
Brian started his high school baseball career at Aurora Hinkley High School in
Aurora, Colorado. While at Aurora Hinkley Brian earned ALL CENTENNIAL
LEAGUE First Team Pitcher honors and was selected to the Colorado
Division AAA ALL STATE High School Baseball Team.
In 1982, Brian moved to Wichita, Kansas, and began attending Wichita North
High School. After graduating from North High where he earned ALL CITY,
ALL DISTRICT-5, and First Team High School ALL AMERICA honors, Brian
was selected by the Montreal Expos in the first round of the 1983 June free agent
draft, the sixteenth player selected overall. Brian decided to forgo a college
baseball scholarship to the University of Nebraska to pursue a professional baseball
career and signed with the Expos organization.
While in the Expos minor league system, Brian earned numerous honors including the Expos organizational Player of the Month
three times. He was named to the Double-A and Triple-A ALL STAR Teams, selected to the Topps Double-A ALL STAR
Team for all of Double-A baseball and was named THE SPORTING NEWS Southern League Pitcher of the Year.
